Are you tired of feeling lost when it comes to supporting your young athlete’s performance?
Do you find yourself constantly second-guessing whether you’re doing the right things to help them succeed?
Are you overwhelmed by conflicting advice on social media about nutrition, training, and development?
You’re not alone. Working with hundreds of young athletes and their families over the last 15+ years, I’ve seen the same pattern repeatedly: passionate, dedicated parents who want nothing more than to support their children’s athletic dreams, but who feel completely unprepared for the journey.
That’s why I’m thrilled to announce something we’ve been working on for months: THE PERFORMANCE PARENT SERIES – a comprehensive 3 workshop series on Nutrition, Injuries and Maturation designed specifically for parents who want to become their young athlete’s greatest support.
Why We Created the Performance Parent Series
BEING A SPORTS PARENT IS HARDER THAN EVER BEFORE. The youth sports landscape has become increasingly complex, competitive, and confusing. Parents are expected to make decisions about nutrition, training, recovery, mental health, and development without any real guidance or education.
The result? Well-meaning parents who inadvertently hold their children back, create unnecessary pressure, or make costly mistakes that could have been easily avoided with the right knowledge.
We’ve seen parents spend thousands of pounds on supplements their children don’t need, push their kids into overtraining, or create anxiety around performance because they simply didn’t know better. These aren’t bad parents – they’re uninformed parents trying to do their best in a system that doesn’t support them.
THAT CHANGES TODAY.
The Performance Parent Series is our answer to the gap between what parents need to know and what they’re actually taught. This isn’t another generic parenting programme, this is specific, practical, science-based education designed for the unique challenges of raising a young athlete.
What Makes This Series Different
Expert-Led Workshops
Each workshop in the Performance Parent Series is led by a recognised expert in their field. We’re not talking about generic advice from people who’ve never worked with young athletes. These are specialists who understand the unique needs, challenges, and opportunities that come with youth athletic development.
These experts aren’t usually accessible in for parents directly due to their roles consulting for the likes of National Governing Bodies like the Scottish Football Association, Premier League Academies like Southampton FC and Professional Clubs like Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors…
Parent-Focused Content
Everything in this series is designed specifically for parents. We understand that you’re not trying to become a coach or a nutritionist – you’re trying to be the best possible support system for your child. Our content reflects that reality.
Practical, Actionable Strategies
You won’t leave these workshops with vague concepts or theoretical knowledge. Every session is packed with specific strategies, tools, and techniques you can implement immediately to support your young athlete more effectively.
Age & Stage-Appropriate Guidance
We recognise that supporting a 10-year-old late maturing athlete is very different from supporting a 16-year-old early maturer. Our workshops provide age and stage specific guidance that acknowledges the developmental differences within youth sports.
Workshop #1: “EAT TO COMPLETE: How to Fuel a Youth Athlete”
WE’RE STARTING WITH THE FOUNDATION – nutrition. Because everything else your young athlete does depends on how well they fuel their body.
Our first workshop, “Eat to Complete: How to Fuel a Youth Athlete,” will be led by Tom Coughlin, one of the UK’s leading experts in youth sports nutrition. This isn’t just another nutrition talk, this is a comprehensive guide to understanding exactly how to fuel your young athlete for optimal performance, recovery, and long-term health.
Why Nutrition Comes First
Before we dive into training techniques, mental skills, or injury prevention, we need to get the basics right. And nothing is more basic – or more important – than proper nutrition.
NUTRITION AFFECTS EVERYTHING:
- Energy levels during training and competition
- Recovery speed between sessions
- Injury risk and healing time
- Mood, focus, and mental clarity
- Growth and development
- Sleep quality and patterns
- Immune system function
Yet most parents feel completely overwhelmed when it comes to feeding their young athlete. They’re bombarded with conflicting information, aggressive marketing from supplement companies, and pressure from other parents who seem to have it all figured out.
This workshop will cut through the confusion and give you a clear, practical roadmap for fueling your young athlete naturally and effectively.

Meet Your Expert: Tom Coughlin
TOM COUGHLIN IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE NUTRITIONIST. With over a decade years of experience working specifically with young athletes, Tom has developed a reputation as one of the most practical, no-nonsense nutrition experts in youth sports. As a previous colleague of mine within the Scottish Rugby system, I’ve personally worked alongside Tom on numerous occasions, and that’s why I specifically wanted him to deliver this workshop for our community.
Tom’s Background and Expertise
Tom holds a Master’s degree in Sports Nutrition from Liverpool John Moores University and is a registered Sports and Exercise Nutritionist with the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr). But more importantly, he’s spent over a decade working directly with young athletes and their families, understanding the real-world challenges they face.
Tom’s Experience Includes:
- Working with youth academies across multiple sports
- Consulting with families of elite junior athletes
- Developing nutrition programmes for grassroots sports clubs
- Training coaches and parents in youth sports nutrition
- Research in adolescent athlete nutrition and development
Tom’s Philosophy: Food First, Always
Tom is a passionate advocate for the food-first approach to youth sports nutrition. He believes – and the science supports – that young athletes can get everything they need from whole, natural foods when properly planned and prepared.
TOM’S CORE PRINCIPLES:
- Real food is always superior to supplements for young athletes
- Nutrition education is more valuable than nutrition prescription
- Parents are the key to long-term nutritional success
- Simple, practical strategies work better than complex protocols
- Individual needs vary, but fundamental principles remain constant
Tom has seen firsthand the transformation that occurs when families move from confusion and stress around nutrition to confidence and clarity. His approach is practical, sustainable, and designed for real families with real challenges.
What Makes Tom’s Approach Unique
Unlike many nutrition experts who focus on elite adult athletes, Tom understands the unique challenges facing families of young athletes. He knows that parents are juggling work, multiple children, budget constraints, and time pressures while trying to support their young athlete’s goals.
Tom’s strategies are designed for busy families who want to do the right thing but need practical, realistic solutions that fit into their daily lives.
